The Marketing boys from the City & County of Swansea have set up a 5-a-side football team. Oh dear.......
Despite losing 4-3 in their first friendly, spirits were high in the Marketing camp, as we prepared for the highly anticipated game against the Housing Department. Banter had been flying throughout the office all day prior to the game about the quality, or lack of it, of some of the more, erm, less gifted sportsmen, shall we say. So the pressure was on to perform, because of course, this was an important game and the banter would be rife the next day if we underachieved.
Did we underachieve? Ohhhhh yes......
The first half started with the sun blazing, it was more Sardinia than Swansea, and, as we were missing
arguably our best player in Matthew Newbold, things didn't start too brightly. One-nil down. We were soon back on track though, Paul Smith with a calm finish to equalise. As events took a major turn for the worse on the pitch (we were 4-1 down at half-time, mainly due to a lack of passing, fitness, direction and quality (just some minor issues which can be resolved)), the events off the pitch also took a turn for the worse. The typical Swansea summer weather burst into action, as the heavens dramatically opened and made our exquisite (no laughing) passing, become a little more difficult.
Anyway, the second half was a blur as we constantly wiped the rain (and a mixture of sweat and hair gel) from our eyes, huffed and puffed until we felt a little faint and placed many wayward passes, we eventually lost 7-1, or was it 8-1? Who cares.....
In the words of D:Ream, things can only get better........hopefully.
